Transfer Compacts

Several agreements exist among state and community colleges and University of Massachusetts campuses to allow transfer between instutitions.

Commonwealth Transfer Compact

The Commonwealth Transfer Compact (.PDF) states that courses and credits will be transferred and applied toward a bachelor’s degree if a student completes his/her associate’s degree with a minimum of 60 credits (exclusive of developmental course work); achieves a cumulative grade point average of not less than 2.0 (in a 4.0 system); and completes the following minimum general education core:

  • 6 credit hours of English composition/writing
  • 9 credit hours of behavioral and social science
  • 9 credit hours of humanities and fine arts
  • 8 credit hours of natural or physical science
  • 3 credit hours of mathematics

Early Childhood Education Compact and Elementary Education Compacts

The statewide Early Childhood Education (.PDF) and Elementary Education (.PDF) Compacts were established to strengthen teacher education throughout the public higher education system, increase the diversity of the teacher workforce, and broaden career opportunities in teaching for community college students.
