Purpose
The purpose of this meeting is to prepare Massachusetts public and private higher education institutions for the August 1, 2009, implementation of the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33). The Post-9/11 Bill requires the Veterans Administration to send payments for eligible students to higher education institutions on the students' behalf, much like the financial aid process, as opposed to the current practice of students receiving these funds directly. The new Bill will also expand and change student benefits. Campuses will need to be ready when the Bill goes into effect in August 2009.
Department staff will outline the provisions and processes of the new Post 9-11 GI Bill, including:
- Student benefit determination
- Payment details
- Yellow Ribbon Program, a voluntary program to fund tuition and fee expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate rate
Who Should Attend
Campus certifying officials for veteran education benefits, chief financial officers, chief academic officers, as well as admissions, bursars, enrollment management, financial aid, registrar, and student services staff. Representatives from both public and private institutions are invited.
