MassTransfer Gen Ed Foundation

Start Anywhere

The GenEd Foundation is a group of 11 courses (34 credits) that is accepted at any community college, state university, or UMass campus in the System.

  • For students pursuing a STEM-focused associate degree, only 9 courses (28 credits) are required to complete the STEM GenEd.
  • *By policy, benefits are only awarded to the STEM GenEd when transferred as part of a completed associate degree. However, receiving institutions are permitted to extend benefits to the free-standing STEM GenEd at their own discretion.
  • Students should work with institutional academic advisors to ensure that their course selections satisfy both MassTransfer and college-specific requirements.

COMPLETE YOUR GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

General Education courses are the foundation of your degree. All 28 undergraduate institutions within the System require their own version of general education or core coursework, designed to provide you with a well-rounded academic experience and foundational knowledge base. The GenEd Foundation allows you to easily transfer these courses to any subsequent institution you attend within the System.*

*Because MassArt and Mass Maritime have special missions, they require a unique set of core subjects that do not conform to the structure of the GenEd Foundation.

Save Money
