On October 27, trustees, presidents, and institutional staff attended a virtual Trustee Convening held via Zoom.
During the two hour convening, DHE Commissioner Carlos Santiago addressed the group, discussing the challenges facing the Massachusetts public higher education system with a particular focus on the impact of COVID-19 on enrollment trends. Following that, BHE Chair Chris Gabrieli introduced Dr. Judith Block McLaughlin from the Harvard Graduate School of Education who spoke about board governance and the shared responsibilities of trustees and institutional presidents. The convening concluded with the launch of the statutory-mandated trustee training that will be administered by DHE in collaboration with the Office of the Inspector General.
