STEM Nexus: Connecting Massachusetts' STEM Community

2-to-4 Year Summer STEM Transfer Academy

STEM Starter Academy student from Bristol Community College

STEM Starter Academy has been supporting community college STEM students earn degrees and certificates since 2014. The Department of Higher Education wants to continue to support community college students in their education as they pursue bachelor’s degrees at one of our public 4-year institutions.

Students transferring from one of the fifteen community colleges in Massachusetts and transferring to a state college or university to pursue a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field are welcome to apply to a Summer Transfer Academy. These programs will either run in-person or virtually, depending on the status of social distancing and campus policy at that time.

Summer bridge programs will allow you the opportunity to get a jump start on your time at the university.  Students who participate in summer bridge will:

Students who are interested in participating in the STEM Transfer Bridge program should apply to the bridge program at the institution where they intend to enroll for the Fall 2020 semester.  If you have applied to more than one institution but do not know where you will be attending, you may apply to more than one.  However, you should only attend the program at the institution you will be attending in the fall.

How to Apply

To apply, download and complete the application. Please follow these steps to successfully fill out and save your information before submitting your application.

  1. Download the application.
  2. Once the application opens up a new tab in your browser, click on the download button (down arrow located at the top right of your screen). This will open up the “save as” box.
  3. Save the application onto your computer. This is critical If you do not save it, then the file will not save anything you type into the application before you close it.
  4. Close the browser.
  5. Open up the application file you just saved. This is also critical. If you are typing into the file that is still connected to the browser, it will not save properly.
  6. Complete and save your application.
  7. Email completed application to program contact.

Be sure to check out the deadline for your institution’s program since they do differ. Once it is completed, please e-mail it to the program contact listed for the program you are applying to this summer. If you have any questions, please contact Allison Little, Assistant Commissioner of P-16 Alignment and Outreach, at alittle@dhe.mass.edu or the contact for your specific program.
