Bay State College Accreditation Status Information and Updates
On Monday, March 20, 2023 the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) issued a public statement regarding the NECHE Appeals Panel March 17, 2023 decision to affirm NECHE’s January 12, 2023 withdrawal of Bay State College’s accreditation effective August 31, 2023. Previously, on Monday, January 16, 2023, both Bay State College, Inc. (Bay State) and its accrediting agency, the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), issued communications regarding Bay State’s accreditation status and NECHE’s intent to withdraw Bay State’s accreditation effective August 31, 2023. The U.S. Department of Education subsequently required Bay State to re-issue its January 16, 2023 communication on February 6, 2023 with additional clarifications.
NECHE’s decision to revoke Bay State’s accreditation is available here, and Bay State’s most recent communication to students is available here and summarized below:
- Bay State has announced a process for withdrawal for any current students who do not wish to continue on this Spring 2023 semester. In alignment with Department of Education requirements, Bay State will allow students to withdraw through February 21, 2023, by filing the appropriate forms with the Office of Outplacement Services. Students who enrolled for the first time for Spring 2023 will also get their deposits back if they choose to withdraw by the February 21st deadline.
- Nursing students scheduled to graduate in May or August 2023 will remain eligible to take NCLEX and become a licensed registered nurse. PTA students scheduled to graduate in May or August 2023 will also remain eligible for their licensure examinations.
- For students scheduled to graduate after August 2023 and looking to continue their studies at another college of their choice, Bay State is in the process of completing transfer agreements with several area schools.Students should remain mindful that any evaluation and decision on transfer credits are made by the college to which the student transfers. Bay State Students may obtain free transcripts by contacting the Registrar’s Office at registrarsoffice@baystate.edu
- Bay State College’s Office of Outplacement Services has dedicated staff members on both the Boston and Taunton campuses to support students through these last terms. The Office of Outplacement Services is currently open from 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday, and may be reached by calling 617-217-9080, or emailing outplacement@baystate.edu.
